Austin Chess Club / Sunday 6 – 11PM
5555 North Lamar — located behind Half Price Bookstore on the east side of North Lamar (across the street from McDonald's restaurant), inside the Bridge Club. Chess players seeking USCF-rated tournaments with slower time controls (e.g. 30/90, SD/60) may find the answer in Austin Chess Club. NOTE: The directors will genuinely welcome scholastic players as long as those players are prepared to adapt themselves to such a serious club and event structure. Play is to be slow, quiet and formal — games should be expected to end quite late, and parents of players 14 and under are required to stay at the club for the duration of the game.

Dobie Mall G10 Tournament and Club / Monday 7–10PM
MLK & Guadalupe Streets — located at the southwest corner of the UT Campus, the multi-story dorm and mall hosts the meeting on the 2nd floor food court near the theater. Chess players start to show up about 6:30PM for casual games and warm-ups for the night's main event, a non-USCF G10+3/five-round Swiss tournament — register by 7PM! Cheap thrills: no memberships required and the EF is only $1! A normal night boasts 40 players (both kids and adults) ranging in strength from 750 to 2250 … a wild evening of intense combat, but also a good time to meet local enthusiasts!

Great Hall Games Chess Club / Wednesday 6–10PM 5501 North Lamar — located at the southwest corner of a strip mall on the east side of North Lamar at Neely St., a long block South of Koenig (aka FM 2222, Northland Dr. et al.) dead across from the U-Haul storefront. No memberships required, though USCF rated games, if and when offered, would require a small rating fee as well as a current USCF membership of the players. Activities at Great Hall Games vary — informal games, blitz tournaments, analysis and lectures are typical. Newcomers to the game are welcome!

Pflugerville Library / Saturday 3–6PM
The Pflugerville Chess Club is held in a meeting room at the Public Library. New G60/G90 time limits have been implemented for upcoming tournaments and should please most players seeking slower time controls. When the library has closed, players who have finished their games, all parents and siblings are then confined to a small foyer and covered portico … but there are a few alternate hangouts at some nearby fast-food establishments. Open most Saturday afternoons 3–6PM, but please check website for assurance!
